Beyond the Diamond: Emily’s Legacy of Service Through Softball

In 2019, Emily found herself at the intersection of two passions that had always driven her: sports and service. Through Sow Good Now, she launched a softball clinic in partnership with the Jefferson University Softball team. What started as a simple idea—to share the game she loved with the next generation—quickly grew into something much deeper.

From the very beginning, the clinic was about more than softball. Alongside teaching hitting, fielding, and teamwork, Emily introduced the girls to the power of philanthropy. Together, they explored what it means to give back, to use their voices and actions to make a difference. At the end of each clinic, she invited the players themselves to decide where to direct a $1,000 donation—instilling in them both agency and responsibility.

That first year, in 2019, the group supported the Child Mind Institute, igniting conversations about youth mental health. In 2020, during a time when the world felt fragile, the girls chose Women Against Abuse, standing up for safety and dignity.

After a pause, the clinic returned in 2022 with renewed energy, and the team selected The Reflect Organization, amplifying awareness around student mental health. In 2023, their choice of Hope for Hallie honored a life lost too soon, reminding everyone of the importance of compassion and prevention. Most recently, in 2024, the group partnered with Mental Health Partnerships, continuing their collective fight for mental well-being and access to support.

Looking back, Emily sees a story of growth: from a seed planted in 2019 to a tradition that has inspired young athletes to see themselves not only as players, but as philanthropists and changemakers. Through each clinic, she has watched softball skills meet life skills, where giving is as important as competing, and where the fight for mental health awareness is carried forward one pitch, one catch, and one choice at a time.
